Dar Bensouda proposes you a selection of workshops, cooking lessons, calligraphy and henna organized in one of the oldest houses in Fez, and it is addressed to all those who wish to discover the pleasures of the Moroccan table and learn calligraphy and henna tatoo.
Dar Bensouda proposes also a selection of proffesionnal guides who allow you to explore the ancient Medina, an endless labyrinth of narrow streets, (4000 and counting) with hundreds of tiny shops, the dyers souk and craft manufacturers who ply their trade in narrow medieval grottoes. Follow the footsteps of the famous Jewish scholar, Maimonides to the En-Nejjarine Square and Fountain and the Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts, housed in the beautifully restored former caravan stop, or fondouk, traditionally a stopping place for merchants traveling Saharan trade routes; and to where Maimonides studied in the Al Karaouine University and Mosque - founded in 859 BCE, the oldest, continually operating university in the world. Visit the Madrassas where Morocco's definitive style of Islamic architecture reached new heights, built between 1321 and 1357, and the Nejjarine Souks (markets) and the leather tanneries, still in use today using techniques from ancient times, producing fine leather in beautiful colours.
